Surf Life Saving - Sydney Northern Beaches

Being a Nipper is fun.

The Nipper program is hosted at 17 of the 21 Clubs on the northern beaches throughout the summer months, usually kicking off after the October school holidays and finishing around Easter.
Most clubs hold nippers on a Sunday morning with a variety of activities. Your child will learn a range of surf and sun awareness skills and will have the opportunity to compete in a number of beach and surf events. Throughout the season participants are expected to complete the surf education program.

To be a nipper your child must be between 5 and 13 years old (as of September 30th of the upcoming season). Nippers is a great way to meet new friends and learn skills in life saving, surf sports, personal development and leadership. The program also mentors our youth into the cadets program before undertaking the Bronze Medallion and other senior awards.

Nippers does not teach swimming but, to participate in water and carnival events,  it is essential your child is capable of undergoing a time pool proficiency swim and a run swim run in the ocean.

New members will be required to present their birth certificate and to purchase swimmers and a cap in their club colours. For more information on individual Nipper programs go to the website of your favourite club.
